The Beacon Museum is an award winning Museum, recognised as punching “well above its weight”. The Museum is owned and operated by Copeland Borough Council working in collaboration with Sellafield Ltd since 2014. The purpose of the collaboration is to maintain and develop the Beacon Museum to become a nationally significant Museum. A £1.2 million development, funded by the Coastal Community Fund and Copeland Community Fund, is underway consisting of two elements: a new 4th floor gallery space built to the highest Museum standards that will allow us to exhibit nationally significant objects and touring collections when it opens in June 2016; a two storey building adjacent to the Museum will house a conference and learning centre. This will open in September 2016.
The Museum is built over five floors with three floors of exhibits, two temporary exhibition galleries, a bistro, a newly opened science lab, a conference and learning centre and a museum shop. Our mission statement is to enable everyone to explore Copeland’s rich and diverse history by collecting, preserving, interpreting and displaying artefacts for inspiration, learning and enjoyment.

The successful candidate should be a commercial individual with a proven track record of delivering target oriented objectives and exceptional visitor services. We are looking for someone with the imagination and drive to achieve the potential, leading the Visitor Service Team through this process of development. Genuine enthusiasm, a keen eye for detail, an appreciation of quality, excellent Customer Service and interpersonal skills and a willingness to lead from the front are essential.
