The British Association of Friends of Museums: Council Members Required

The British Association of Friends of Museums  (BAfM) is looking to recruit a number of Council members each with a specific contribution to make in helping BAfM develop and move forward. They should have a passion for the work of Friends of museums locally and nationally. The vacancies are immediate and would be ratified at the AGM in October at Cheltenham.

There are two Council meetings a year held in London before which there is a meeting of area representatives who also meet on the day of the AGM. Reasonable expenses may be claimed but there are no fees paid. Much of the day to day operation of the Association is by email so adequate computer skills are essential.

Chairman-elect: to understudy the present chairman with a view to taking over the chair at a future AGM. They should have experience of running a local Friends group and have a keen interest in museum and voluntary work.

Vice chairman: to take on selected projects and chair the Strategic Development Group which meets around three times a year.

Treasurer: to oversee the work of the administrator who deals with bookkeeping, general membership administration and who prepares draft accounts. The treasurer would be responsible for preparing budgets for Council and would present accounts at the AGM.

Two area representatives: South West region (Somerset, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire and Isles of Scilly); North East (Cleveland, Durham, Northumberland, Teeside and Tyne & Wear).

They should have been actively involved with their local Friends group. They keep in touch with members in their region by sending out occasional e newsletters and arrange a regional Conference once a year.
