The new curriculum: Opportunities for museums

Some timely advice on the new National Curriculum from Museum Development East Midlands and the Marches Network.

The Marches Network

Museum Development East Midlands (MDEM) has compiled a list of opportunities presented by the new curriculum. These include using new or underused parts of the collection, using the museum’s indoor and outdoor space in different ways and focussing on local history.

They are presented in MDEM’s information sheet ‘The New Curriculum – opportunities for museums’, which can be downloaded by following this link. The information sheet was written by learning and education consultant Kate Travers and explores key changes to the primary and secondary curricula and the implications for museums.

The information sheet presents a series of strategies and actions to engage schools including marketing, curriculum linked activities and income generation.
